Post Earthquake Mission in Balakot

A five member team from International Emergency Team France and Secours Populaire has performed a humanitarian mission in February 2006 in order to give direct assistance in Balakot.

Our local partner SALIK DEVLOPMENT FOUNDATION, identified during a former rescue mission in October 2005, has efficiently collaborated with us in precisely assessing the needs of populations in precarious condition after the earthquake. SALIK development identified 3 camps affected by the disaster in the district of Balakot which are in real need of emergency aid: 500 families of 8 people in average , this is 4000 people who will receive direct food aid, clothes, , school material and also proper medical care. All the products delivered in cashmere villages, have been purchased locally thanks to financial donations collected in Limoges. This solution has been chosen to fit the local context and in another hand, to back the Pakistani economy.

Various projects are now being studied. In the schedule: building a mother/child hospital, delivering ambulance equipments, creating a basic education centre (e.g adult learning centers). Secours Populaire and International Emergency Team France will keep supporting this region so devastated by the seism, namely with the permanent operation “1 pakol for Pakistan” aimed at financing humanitarian actions in Pakistan.
