Bring new response to seismic hazard by individual simulations
3 axes :
Innovation
Training/Reduction
Return on experience
Initial situation:
- According to the new law of modernisation of civil safety, information on hazards, first aid and rescue services organisation is compulsory in schools. This urges the need for pedagogical animations.
- A updated map of seismic hazard is expected by the end of 2004, beginning of 2005 which will take into account the latest regional seismic events (Isère, Vosges…).
- the success won by the numerous presentations of the « earthquake simulator device » shows a real interest for simulation and for the earthquake phenomenon.
Target
- teenagers and adults including those who have once experienced a seismic phenomenon.
- teenagers and adults who need to get familiar with the seismic hazard.
- children in schools (kindergarten, primary and secondary schools...).
- teachers and trainers.
Results
Information/animation in schools on major hazard and tsunami
Testing of the simulator by each student
Interview before and after the simulation
Video display: LCD or 3D glasses
Configuration of new seismic sequences
The seismic hazard culture through simulation :
- Raising the new generation's awareness of seismic hazard culture.
- Train the target populations and make them familiar with the emotions felt during a disaster.
- Develop their instinct for survival in case of major tremor.
-Explain natural phenomena's origins.
- Help acquire elementary survival attitude.
Advantages of the earthquake simulator ...
Simulation in school environment: 150 children per day (briefing and simulation)
Automatic sequences, can be replayed indefinitely and adapted to the seismic reality of the moment. Simulations can also be programmed manually.
Video displays or 3D glasses completed with a pedagogical leaflet for students
Pedagogical option in schools, as part of complementary practise added to the official programme on natural phenomena
Easy to transport, standard electricity supply
User friendly, convenient, easy maintenance
This simulation programme can be part of a general awareness raising project dealing with natural disasters' effects.
